Travel & Transport
GETTING TO SANTORINI
By Air
Arrive via Santorini International Airport (JTR),
with direct flights available from Athens, Abu Dhabi and several major European cities.
Flying is the quickest option.
By Sea
Ferries to Santorini (Thira Port) operate from Athens, departing from both Piraeus and Rafina ports.
Journey times typically range from approximately 5 to 9 hours, depending on the vessel, with several ferry companies servicing this route.
Ferry connections from other Greek islands are also available.
GETTING AROUND SANTORINI
Transportation to Wedding Events
Transportation will be provided to and from the wedding celebration and the sunset cruise. Guests are kindly asked to make their own way to the welcome party. Kindly share your accommodation details with us in advance so we can coordinate transport. Further details, including pick-up times, will be provided closer to the date.
Transport Options Around Santorini
Taxi and uber are available, though fares are relatively high, with a base fare of approximately €40. Availability may be more limited during peak times.
Hotel-arranged transfers and private drivers are widely available and are the most reliable option for getting around.
Car or ATV is recommended for those who would like greater flexibility during their stay. An international driving licence is required for most car hire services.
Public buses are the least expensive transport option and operate between major towns (including Fira, Oia, and the port).
Accommodation
Where to Stay in Santorini
We strongly recommend staying in Fira (Thira) or Imerovigli for the best overall experience of Santorini. For guests who need to stay closer to the wedding venue, Akrotiri or Megalochori are suitable options, though these areas are more secluded, with fewer amenities. While Oia is an iconic, must-visit destination and the location of our welcome party, it is generally less ideal for staying, as it can be crowded, more isolated from the rest of the island, and many hotels are not easily accessible by car.
Below are a small selection of hotel options in Fira and Imerovigli recommended to us, though there are many wonderful places to stay across Santorini.
Transportation to and from the wedding and sunset cruise will be arranged from guests’ accommodation where accessible by car, or from the nearest accessible location.
Fira
The vibrant heart of Santorini, Fira offers sweeping caldera views, exceptional dining and easy access across the island.

Imerovigli
Set high above the caldera, Imerovigli is serene and romantic, known for its dramatic sunsets, refined hotels and peaceful atmosphere.

What about gifts?

What will the weather be like?
Santorini in late August is typically warm and sun-filled, with daytime temperatures around 25-30°C. Evenings are slightly cooler, particularly by the water or along the cliffs, with a gentle breeze.
The wedding ceremony will likely be quite warm, with a cooler evening after the sun sets.
